About Us

The Phillip Reed Group was created out of a lifelong passion for sports and a desire to promote and support young athletes across Wisconsin. Named after the middle names of our children, our organization is rooted in family, legacy, and the belief that every student-athlete deserves the chance to pursue higher education. We aim to empower athletes by providing scholarships, recognition, and meaningful opportunities that highlight their hard work, character, and dedication, both on and off the field.

Our program is made possible through the support of our board, community partners, donors and supporters who believe in investing in the future of student-athletes. Together, we are turning performance, character, and heart into opportunity; one week at a time. Each Friday night, student-athletes give everything they have for their teammates, schools, and towns. PRG Scholarships exists to ensure those efforts are seen, celebrated, and supported beyond the final whistle. Through weekly scholarships during the regular season, we spotlight standout performances and give communities a voice in honoring their athletes.

Craig Bergner Founder & President

Hi, I’m Craig Bergner, founder of the Phillip Reed Group. Sports have shaped my entire life, from competing as a collegiate athlete, to coaching after college, to years spent covering and celebrating high school athletes through the media. The relationships I built along the way opened my eyes to how hard many young athletes work; not just to succeed in their sport, but to build a future for themselves.

I was inspired to create this organization through my passion of helping people and making a positive impact. I want to give back to the same community that has given me so much, and to help student-athletes overcome barriers so they can continue their education.

Family is incredibly important to me! I have an amazing wife of ten years and two wonderful sons who are involved in sports. From a young age we offered our children the opportunity to participate in different activities, while emphasizing passion, hard work and kindness. Through the Phillip Reed Group, we will celebrate and reward those same qualities in our athletes.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to participate and be included.”

Have questions about how PRG Scholarships works?
Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about nominations, voting, scholarships, and how we support student-athletes throughout the season.

  • What is PRG Scholarships?

PRG Scholarships is a weekly scholarship program that recognizes high school football players for outstanding performance on the field and impact off the field during the regular season.

  • How does the weekly scholarship process work?

Each week during the 9-week regular season:

    1. Players are nominated after Friday night games
    2. The PRG board reviews nominations and selects the top 20
    3. The public votes on the finalists
    4. A weekly scholarship winner is announced
  • Who can nominate a player?

Anyone can submit a nomination — coaches, teachers, parents, teammates, or community members — as long as the nomination is submitted within the designated time window.

  • When does nomination open and close each week?

Nominations open after Friday night games and close on Sunday at Noon. Late submissions will not be considered.

  • How does voting work?

Once the top 20 nominees are selected, public voting opens for a limited time. Each person is allowed one vote per week, and voting closes automatically at the scheduled deadline.

  • What criteria are used to select finalists and winners?

    Finalists are selected based on:

    • Individual game performance
    • Sportsmanship
    • Leadership
    • Overall impact during the game

Final winners are determined by public voting results.
